Oblate
School of Theology Campus
The home of the Ministry
to Ministers Sabbatical Program is The Pat Guidon Center for
Continuing Education located on the Campus of Oblate School
of Theology. It is conveniently located in north central San
Antonio, five miles from the heart of the city and the famous “Paseo
del Rio Riverwalk”, but exudes a sense of seclusion,
natural beauty and peace. Sabbaticants find delight in the
park-like campus setting with its beautifully landscaped lawns.
Ample walkways meander through the 41 acres that are also home
to Oblate School of Theology. It is a wooded, inviting landscape
that includes trees planted by the Oblates themselves, plants
and flowers native to South Texas and an outdoor environment
for Stations of the Cross. An atmosphere of quiet, peace and
hospitality radiates from this oasis of sacred ground. It is
a source of strength for the mind, the body and the spirit.
A place where your soul can soar while your body finds peace
and refreshment. The campus is a beautiful park-like setting
which also includes the 100 year old school building, the Immaculate
Conception Memorial Chapel, the Lourdes Grotto and Shrine of
our Lady of Guadalupe, the Oblate Renewal Center and the new
O’Shaughnessy Library containing a theological collection
of more than 100,000 volumes. A large outdoor swimming pool
is available during the warm months.
San
Antonio
San
Antonio captures the spirit of Texas. The Alamo City, is rich
in history, faith and cultural heritage. Although it is the
eighth largest city in the United States (second largest in
Texas), San Antonio offers all the friendliness and warmth
of a small town in a predominantly Hispanic ambience. For history
buffs, San Antonio is a mecca. The chain of missions established
along the San Antonio River in the 18th century are reminders
of one of Spain’s most successful attempts to extend
its New World dominion from Mexico. The missions are the greatest
concentration of Catholic missions in North America and formed
the foundation for what is today the thriving city of San Antonio.
It is ideally located one hour from the beautiful Texas hill
country, three hours from the beaches of the Texas coast and
three hours from the closest crossing into Mexico.
