Schedule
The program is held twice
yearly. It runs from approximately the middle of January to
the middle of May and from the middle of August to the middle
of December.
Since the program comprises
a group of people who come to share life, faith and experiences
in common, the schedule calls for participation seven days
a week. By this is meant that participants, in true sabbatical
spirit, are expected to leave all active ministry behind and
to devote their time and energies to involvement in the total
program, both its formal and informal aspects. Free time is
built into the program, including most afternoons and evenings,
and most Saturdays and Sundays.
Lest there be any misunderstanding,
let it be clearly stated that parish supply work would be inappropriate
for an ordained participant during sabbatical: firstly, in
fairness to himself, and, secondly, in fairness to the dynamics
of the renewal community.
There is a mid-session
break of four days, allowing for travel or home visits. During
the Fall Semester there is also an American Thanksgiving Recess
which would allow participants to travel and spend the holiday
with family or religious community. During the Spring Semester
participants may spend the Easter holiday with family or religious
community. For those choosing not to travel either holiday,
they are free to remain at the Guidon Center.
