The BYBLOS Certificate of Enrichment in Sacred Scripture program provides an introductory exploration of key components of the biblical Canon (Roman Catholic). Students will be exposed to those key components and to a diversity of exegetical approaches, both ancient and contemporary. Inspired by the work of the Pontifical Biblical Commission, graduates from this program will engage with the Christian Sacred Scriptures based on sound critical methods and hermeneutic principles. The program is oriented to nourish the personal growth and professional development of persons seeking to serve the mission of the Church from an ecumenical perspective.

The goal of the program is to provide students with the opportunity to explore key components of the biblical Canon. Spiritual directors, Christian counselors, Directors of Religious Education, Ministers on Sabbatical, teachers, and others would benefit from enrolling.

Curriculum & Degree Requirements

Candidates must complete a total of 18 hours for enrichment in Scriptural studies. No credit hours completed in other schools may be transferred.
Candidates must complete:
1 hour for enrichment of core courses. This provides the necessary historical background to understand the Canon and to fully benefit from other courses.
2 hours for enrichment of Scripture Practicum. Students are required to complete 2 hours/CEUs for enrichment of supervised Lectio Divina.
15 hours for enrichment of elective courses. Students are required to take 15 hours of elective courses for enrichment in Scripture.
The program can be completed online, in person, or some combination of both ways. Full attendance and participation are required.

Courses taken for enrichment cannot be transferred into other programs at Oblate School of Theology.
