In 1849, the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate came to San Antonio, bringing with them a profound mission to preach Christ's message and serve the people of God, especially the poor and marginalized. This international apostolic religious congregation of priests and brothers would go on to establish a lasting presence in the region. Their commitment to serving marginalized communities laid the foundation for what would become Oblate School of Theology, founded in 1903 with a mission dedicated to the teaching of spirituality, diversity, and ministry—values that continue to transform lives through theological education today.
