• Oblate School of Theology (OST), a Roman Catholic school of theology and ministry serving the Southwest United States, invites applications for the inaugural Victory Noll Chair of Hispanic Engagement/Victory Noll Cátedra de Ministerio Hispano with a preferred start date of August 2027.

  Candidates should possess an established body of research in Hispanic realities in a particular field of theological or pastoral inquiry. The ideal candidate will bring a record of fostering theological education among Hispanics in a variety of pastoral and academic contexts and will be able to teach and publish in both Spanish and English. These qualifications are necessary to fulfill the purpose of the chair, which is twofold: to foster research and teaching in Hispanic theology and ministry, and to further the school’s accompaniment of and collaboration with Hispanic communities. The successful candidate will be prepared to develop and teach courses in his/her area of specialization at both the graduate and certificate levels.

• She or he will chair the monthly meetings of the Hispanic Engagement Committee (HEC) and will collaborate closely with the director of Continuing Education to develop programming and promote annual events and lectures. On the global level, the ideal candidate will be prepared to increase OST’s membership and active presence in national and international organizations committed to Hispanic/Latine theological and pastoral education.

• The successful candidate will be willing and able to work with colleagues in all aspects of graduate professional theological education in an ecumenically, culturally, and ethnically diverse setting. She or he should be a Catholic in good standing and be prepared to fulfill the canonical requirements expected of a Roman Catholic teaching in a school of theology as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae. He or she will serve on faculty committees, advise and mentor students, and maintain positive relationships with local ecclesial leaders.

  Candidaturas para este puesto deben contar con un cuerpo de investigación consolidado en torno a las realidades hispanas en un campo específico de indagación teológica o pastoral. La candidatura ideal aportará un historial de fomento de la educación teológica entre la población hispana en una variedad de contextos pastorales y académicos y será capaz de impartir clases y publicar tanto en español como en inglés. Estos requisitos son indispensables para cumplir el propósito de la cátedra, que es doble: fomentar la investigación y la docencia en teología y en ministerio hispanos, y potenciar el acompañamiento y la colaboración de la institución con las comunidades hispanas.

A nivel global, la candidatura ideal estará preparada para ampliar la membresía y reforzar la presencia de OST en organizaciones nacionales e internacionales comprometidas con la educación teológica y pastoral hispana/latina.

• La candidatura seleccionada estará dispuesta y capacitada para colaborar con sus colegas en todos los aspectos de la educación teológica profesional de posgrado, en un entorno cultural, étnico y ecuménicamente diverso. Esta persona debería ser católica y mantener una relación regular y canónica con la Iglesia. • Inspired by the charism of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, Oblate School of Theology educates, forms, and renews men and women to “preach the Gospel to the most abandoned.” Established in 1903, OST is a vibrant and complex educational institution that provides theological and ministerial leadership in both academic and professional degrees. Its PhD program in Spirituality has grown exponentially in the ten years since its beginning. The school is equally committed to the pastoral and theological education and formation of students from nine dioceses and six different religious orders who are studying for priesthood. Other established programs include academic degrees such as the MA in Theology, the MA in Spirituality, and the MA in Sacred Scripture. Professional programs include the DMin, the MDiv, the MA in Pastoral Ministry, and the Maestría de Artes en Ministerio Pastoral, which is offered bilingually in Spanish and English. OST likewise resources the local church with several vibrant lay certificate programs. Institutes such as the Sankofa Institute for African American Pastoral Leadership, the Institute for the Study of Contemporary Spirituality, and the Instituto de Formación Pastoral provide academic homes for students studying across the degree programs.

• Doctorate in theology or ministry.

• Experience forming Roman Catholic pastoral agents in Hispanic ministry.

• Experience teaching at the university level.

• Demonstrated excellence in teaching and administration.

• Demonstrated sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic,

• socioeconomic, cultural, ecumenical, and ethnic backgrounds of members of the school community and local Church.

• Demonstrated commitment to innovative pedagogy in diverse formats (hybrid, online, face-to-face).

• Fluency in Spanish and English and ability to teach and publish in both languages.

• Ability to bring Oblate School of Theology into dialogue in national and international conversations beyond the School’s traditional focus on South Texas.

• Willingness to learn about the history of the Oblate charism, its role in Hispanic ministry, and its application to theological education.

• Ability to evaluate and enhance existing Hispanic programs and curricula.

• Ability to facilitate and enhance access to theological education at all levels for people of Hispanic/Latine origins.

• Ability to facilitate knowledge and engagement of current research about Hispanic/Latine people among the OST community
