“The Summer Institute is an event where serious theological engagement meets genuine community,” said Antonio Frietze, director of the Continuing Education program at OST. “This year, we were intentional about bringing clinical practitioners and spiritual directors into genuine dialogue to reflect a conviction we all share: that healing of the soul and healing of the mind are complementary projects.”

SAN ANTONIO, TX – Oblate School of Theology (OST) will host their annual 2026 Summer Institute on Monday, June 15, through Wednesday, June 17, at the Whitley Event Center on the OST campus. The three-day theological and spiritual gathering invites participants to explore the intersections of mysticism, soul, and psyche, deepening one’s Christian spirituality and contemporary psychological insight. The event will draw from philosophy, depth psychology, and the Christian mystical tradition, allowing participants to rediscover the ancient languages through which human beings have named their experiences of God, meaning, and transformation. This year’s Summer Institute invites distinguished spiritual scholars and faith leaders to lead thought-provoking presentations that bring perspectives from theology, pastoral ministry, and clinical practice. Participants will also engage in breakout sessions and guided conversations to allow for deep reflection.

This year’s featured keynote speaker, Dr. Peter Tyler, an internationally respected scholar of spirituality and practicing psychotherapist, will deliver three keynote presentations exploring the relationship between mythos, logos, and psyche, and the transformative nature of mysticism. Additional keynote speakers include Doug Beach, a mental health advocate and former executive director of NAMI Greater San Antonio, and Father Ron Rolheiser, OMI, an award-winning author and world-renowned speaker of contemporary spirituality and religion.

“The theme, Mysticism, Soul, and Psyche, is both timely and deeply engaging,” shares Dr. Tyler. “It invites participants to rediscover the deeper dimensions of human experience and explore how our inner lives are shaped at the intersection of faith, meaning, and psychological insight.” The 2026 Summer Institute will be held in person and online; a boxed lunch meal package will be available for purchase to in-person attendees.
